University of Pennsylvania
Position
Postdoctoral position
Location
Philadelphia
Date Posted
Nov 27th 2007
Description
A postdoctoral fellow position is available at the University ofPennsylvania to study the mouse spermatogonial stem cell self-renewaland differentiation using transplantation, in vitro expansion of stemcells, and genetic approaches. Spermatogonial stem cell is one of theonly two mouse adult stem cells for which transplantation has been developed.
Functional transplantation is the most powerful approach to study theregulation of adult stem cell functions. The laboratory is currentlyfocused on two aspects of the germline development: spermatogonial stemcell biology and chromosome dynamics during meiosis.
The laboratory is strong in mouse genetics (knockout and transgenesis)and cell biology. The potential candidate will characterize and utilizethe mouse models already developed in the laboratory to studyspermatogonial stem cells, and will be responsible for generating newmouse mutants. More information about the laboratory can be found at ourwebsite http://www.vet.upenn.edu/faculty/pwang
Highly motivated individuals with a recent Ph.D., M.D. or Ph.D/M.D and astrong background in molecular biology, biochemistry, mammalian cellculture, or mouse genetics are encouraged to apply.
Contact
Candidates with a publication record are encouraged to apply. Pleasesend a CV, brief statement of research interests, and names and contactinformation for three referees to: Dr. P. Jeremy Wang, AssistantProfessor, Dept. of Animal Biology, University of Pennsylvania, 3800Spruce Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104. Email: pwang@vet.upenn.edu
