Description:
Postdoctoral Fellow position and Research Assistant Professor position are available immediatley to join a group whose research interest is focused on understanding the molecular and cellular basis OF HOST-PATHOGEN INTERACTION. NIH-funded projects include: 1. Molecular and cellular mechanism(s) of T cell, natural killer (NK) and natural killer T cells (NKT) cell functions in regulating immune responses to human pathogenic bacteria, mainly intracellular bacteria using mouse and human models. 2. Cellular and Molecular mechanism(s) underlying T cells, NK and NKT activation; effector differentiation. These projects utilize cellular and molecular approaches: a) pathogen-reactive T cell frequency and effector function using tetramer technology, ELISPOT, ELISA, and multiplex flow cytometry of effector molecules; b) isolation of dendritic cells and macrophages and in vitro co-culture with purified T and NK cells to determine their antigen presentation functions; c) identification of bacterial ligands that are recognized by Toll-like receptors and stimulate NK and T cells using state-of-the-art proteomics techniques; d) Gene-deficient mice and adoptive transfer techniques are used to delineate mechanisms of T cells, NK and NKT cells mediated pathology and/or protection during infection. A doctoral degree in immunology, cell biology, or molecular biology is required with experience in techniques in one or more of these areas is desired. To apply, send a recent Curriculum Vitae along with a statement of Research Interests as well as name and telephone number (and/or email address) of three references from whom letters of recommendation can be sought, to: Nahed Ismail, MD, Ph.D., Department of Pathology, Meharry Medical College, West Basic Science Building, 1005 Dr. D.
