Postdoctoral Research Scientist

Responsibilities:
The laboratory of Dr. Dennis Vitkup (Columbia University, Center for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics) and Roche Pharmaceuticals In Silico Sciences group are jointly seeking to fill an exciting Postdoctoral Research Scientist position. The position provides a unique opportunity to develop state-of-the-art computational biology methods and apply them to high-dimensional data including genomic, genetics and clinical datasets available at Roche. The Postdoctoral Research Scientist will work primarily at Columbia University in close collaboration with Roche scientists. The main goal of the collaboration is the development of computational systems biology methods and high-profile scientific publications.

The ideal candidate will have familiarity with analysis/modeling of genomic and proteomic datasets and with various simulation, statistics and machine learning techniques, including optimization-based, Bayesian and integrative approaches. He/she will have familiarity with kinetic models that are used to represent biochemical interactions in a cellular context, including transcriptional interactions, complex formation and post-translational modification events.

Requirements:
The position requires a PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Computational Physics, Biophysics or a related area. The successful candidate is expected to have a deep conceptual understanding of modern molecular biology and good working knowledge of several programming/scripting languages (C, C++, Java, Python, Perl). Excellent communication and writing skills are essential.
