Description:

Department of Genetics and Biotechnology

A three-year postdoc position is available for the period 1 July 2010 to 30 June 2013 at Aarhus University, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Dept. of Genetics and Biotechnology, Research Centre Flakkebjerg in the research area “Genetic association studies in ryegrass”.

Research Area
It is the aim of the project to develop a new breeding strategy for ryegrass based on genetic association studies. The post doc position is a part of the project ”Genomics-based breeding in perennial ryegrass: transforming years of accumulated breeding data into ‘state-of-the-art’ breeding”, and will be undertaken in collaboration with the Danish grass breeding company DLF-Trifolium.

The work will comprise large-scale gene expression studies, genome based strategies for identification of SNP markers and genotyping based on Illumina genotyping technology. The SNP polymorfies will be associated with existing phenotypic data for e.g. disease resistance, stress response and flowing time with the objective to identify and quantify the genetic variation that affects these properties. This knowledge will subsequently be used for the development of a more efficient method for selection of the best plants in the breeding programme for fodder end turf grasses.

The postdoc position will be part of a project group at the Dept. of Genetics and Biotechnology, Research Centre Flakkebjerg with competencies and facilities for grass and cereal molecular genetics, molecular biology and biochemistry.

Required qualifications
Relevant academic education from a university or academic institution is required as well as a PhD degree or equivalent qualifications within plant molecular biology or genetics. Applicants with a thorough knowledge within plant molecular biology and genetics will be preferred.

Place of employment and place of work
The place of employment is Aarhus University, and the place of work is the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Forsøgsvej 1, DK-4200 Slagelse.

Salary and terms of employment
