Description:
The ‘Institut du Thorax’ (IdT) is an expanding Research Unit based at the University-Hospital of Nantes (France). It comprises surgeons, clinicians, nurses and researchers who are recognised among the best European specialists in heart pathologies such as sudden cardiac death (SCD).
The IdT is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. The successful candidate will join a new research group set up by Richard Redon, who has been actively involved in discovering copy number variation in the human genome. The position holder will undertake projects and collaborations in the area of large scale genomic data mining. Specifically, he is sought for work on funded projects focussing on pathologies leading to abnormal electrical heart activity and associated with high risk of SCD. The objective is the identification of genetic risk factors of ventricular fibrillation by analysing large genetic datasets generated by DNA capture and massively parallel sequencing as well as copy number variation assays. Identifying these genetic determinants will allow the stratification of SCD risk and so guide prevention policies in the population.
Qualifications:
——Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Biology or Bioinformatics
——Familiarity with genomic data types generated by microarray analysis and next-generation sequencing
——Proficiency in R, Perl, C++ and/or other appropriate scripting languages
——Ability to communicate scientific material and collaborate well.
