Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, nephrology, proteinuria, Glomerular Disease, postdoc

job description:

A postdoctoral position is available starting January 1, 2010 in the Program in Glomerular Disease in the Nephrology Division at Massachusetts General Hospital, to study mechanisms of proteinuria. Specifically, we are interested in the role of TRPC channels and calcium mediated signaling in glomerular podocytes. We are focusing on the mechanisms by which aberrations in calcium signaling lead to cytoskeletal rearragements which in turn may result in podocyte foot process effacement and proteinuria. Our ultimate goal is to dissect out the mechanism of podocyte dysfunction leading to nephrotic syndromes, both genetic and acquired (such as diabetic nephropathy, membranous nephropathy etc.). We are using molecular biology, biochemistry, cell culture, specialized imaging techniques, electrophysiology and animal models to study proteinuric syndromes.

Candidates should have a PhD and/or an MD degree. Candidates with a strong background in mouse models of disease, including previous experience in the generation of transgenic and/or knockout mouse lines is preferred.
