Description
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Researcher in the department of Crop Genetics.
The successful candidate will join a team working in the area of computationally-based research as part of a multinational project “Associative expression and systems analysis of complex traits in oilseed rape”. This project aims to exploit gene expression, metabolite and phenotype data in a systems-genetics approach to identify gene co-expression networks.
The post holder will be responsible for adapting and applying computational biology techniques to identify relationships between the transcriptome and a range of developmental, metabolic and performance traits. They will use appropriate computational platforms for the more detailed analysis of a small number of specific pathways. This information will be used to support the development of dynamic simulations to test hypotheses about regulatory and metabolic control processes.
The John Innes Centre is a world-class Institute and is looking to appoint an exceptional candidate who has, or expects to soon receive a PhD in Biological Sciences. We will be providing the job-holder with opportunities to develop their technical and transferable skills during this assignment, by way of training programmes, coaching and mentoring.
Essential skills required are familiarity with Systems Biology Markup Language and experience of using an appropriate platform for systems biology analysis, such as Reactome, Virtual Plant, or similar. The ability to work independently and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with both computational scientists and biologists, including via presentations at conferences, are required.
The appointment will be as a Postdoctoral Researcher and the salary will be within the range £26,088 to £28,986 dependent upon qualifications and experience.
