Description

School of Pharmacy

A postdoctoral research fellow is required for a CRUK funded project in drug discovery and development. This project aims to discover and evaluate small-molecule kinase inhibitors for cancer therapy.

The successful candidate will (a) express and purify proteins, (b) develop kinase assays and test compounds for their inhibitory activity, (c) evaluate the biologic mechanism of inhibitor compounds, and (d) participate in optimise potency, selectivity and pharmaceutical properties on the basis of structural-activity relationship assessment.

With interests in drug discovery and development, candidates should have a good first degree, a PhD in biochemistry and/or molecular biology with extensive experience of gene cloning, protein expression, purification and enzymatic assay development. Candidates should be creative, highly-motivated and committed to conducting world-class research. Previous experience of screening and analysing inhibitor compounds in enzymatic and cell-based assays is highly desirable. In addition, candidates should have good communication skills and will be expected to take on a leadership role, working with postgraduate researchers, maintaining high laboratory standards, writing regular reports and research publications.

Salary will be within the range £27,183 – £34,435 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of one year.
