Description

The Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre has recently been foundedby the Senckenbergische Naturforschende Gesellschaft, theGoethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main, and additional partners. It isfunded by the Hessian State Initiative for the Development of Scientificand Economic Excellence (LOEWE). The mission of the Centre is to carryout internationally outstanding research on the interactions ofbiodiversity and climate change at the organism level. BAT II a

The applicant will be responsible for a project aiming to identifycandidate genes playing key roles for climate adaptation in variousinvertebrate taxa (Daphnia, Chironomus, Radix). The project investigatesgenes which are positively selected along a climate gradient, includingcross-taxon similarities. To this end, genomic resources (EST bank,micro-array) for Radix have to be established; for the other taxa, theseresources are already available. Furthermore, the technicalimplementation of the high throughput laboratory is part of theresponsibilities. The incumbent will also be responsible for theorganisation of advanced training courses. Participation in universityteaching and in the acquisition of external research funding is highly desired.

The applicant should hold an earned Ph.D. in molecular biology,preferably with a strong focus on transcriptome analysis. She or heshould already have experience with high throughput technologies andshould be interested in ecological and climate change issues. Applicantsshould have a strong publication record. Very good written and oralEnglish language skills and an interest in joining a multidisciplinaryresearch team are required. Knowledge of German would be an advantage,and at least the willingness to learn basic German as well as provenorganising abilities are required.

The contract shall start as soon as possible and will initially berestricted for 2 years, with a possible extension being subject topersonal performance and availability of funds. The duty station will beFrankfurt am Main, Germany.
