Description

A Post-doctoral Research Associate position in immunology is available immediately through the University of Arizona College of Medicine Phoenix in partnership with Arizona State University working in the laboratory of Dr. Karen Taraszka Hastings.

This position involves the study of the role of antigen processing in immune recognition of melanoma using mouse models, cell culture systems and patient specimens. Ongoing projects involve the role of MHC class II processing components in the pathogenesis of auto-immune destruction of melanocytes (vitiligo), in the recognition and destruction of melanoma following various vaccination strategies, and in immune evasion. Murine immunization, in vivo studies of T and B cell responses, tissue culture, recombinant vaccinia viruses, cellular immunology techniques (FACS, ELISA, proliferation/division and antigen processing assays), immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence, molecular biology and biochemistry (Western blot, immunoprecipitation, protein purification) techniques will be used.

This position is an opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join and influence the direction of one of the founding laboratories at the UA College of Medicine Phoenix in partnership with ASU. The College of Medicine Phoenix is at the center of tremendous biomedical growth that will take place in Phoenix in the coming years. Our laboratory is located in a new state-of-the-art research building with core equipment facilities such as a BD LSRII flow cytometer. The atmosphere is highly collaborative, and our laboratory interacts with researchers at ASU, Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen), Arizona Cancer Center, Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center, and University of Arizona in Tucson.
