Date Expires
May 2nd 2008

Description
A postdoctoral position funded by Science Foundation Ireland isavailable to study the role of Toll-like receptor 2 and 4 and theinflammatory caspase, caspase-1, in the pathogenesis of RheumatoidArthritis. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are innate immune receptors thatare activated by pathogens and endogenous ligands, instigatingproinflammatory cytokine production including IL-1beta via caspase-1.Inappropriate activation of TLRs and caspase-1 may give rise to chronicinflammatory disease including Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). The currentproject will aim to characterise the molecular mechanisms involved inactivating the caspase-1 signalling complexes called ‘inflammasomes’through endogenous and exogenous TLR2/4 ligands.
Applications are sought from highly motivated committed individuals witha PhD in cell biology, biochemistry, immunology or a related discipline.A strong research background in cell signalling and/or molecularimmunology would be advantageous. Expertise in the area of proteomicanalysis (2D gel electrophoresis, DIGE, LC-MS) would be advantageous.
Contact
Review of applications will begin immediately and an expected start datenot later than July 2008 is envisaged. Applicants should submit their CValong with the names and contact details of two referees, preferably viaemail to sinead.miggin@nuim.ie
