Description
A highly motivated individual with doctoral training in developmentalbiology, immunology, biochemistry, molecular biology, stem cell biologyor other closely related life sciences is being sought for a two yearpost doctoral position at the University of Pittsburgh, McGowanInstitute for Regenerative Medicine. The ultimate goal of the laboratoryis to develop techniques and materials that promote the regeneration andconstructive remodeling of mammalian tissues and organs. There is astrong emphasis in the laboratory upon the use and understanding ofextracellular matrix and its constitutive molecules as an inductivescaffold that modulates fundamental processes in tissue development andtissue response to injury. Studies in the laboratory range from theinvestigation of the cell signaling mechanisms and cell:matrixinteractions that direct cell migration, proliferation anddifferentiation to the biomechanical and pre-clinical studies thatsupport clinical translation. There will be preference given toindividuals with a background and experience in the role of macrophagesand/or the innate immune system in response to various signalingmolecules. The laboratory is part of the McGowan Institute forRegenerative Medicine, which provides abundant opportunities forinteraction with world experts in stem cell biology, biomechanics, immunology, and clinical medicine. The post-doctoral fellow will usetechniques in immunology, molecular biology, biochemistry, microscopicand ultrastructural imaging, and cell biology to evaluate the mechanismsthat promote the restoration of structurally and functionally normaltissues and organs. Strong English speaking and writing skills areabsolute essentials, as well as a track record of peer reviewedpublications as first author. Candidates should hold a doctoral degreein an appropriate field of biological or physical sciences. Thecandidate must be able to conduct independent research whilecollaborating with others in a large interdisciplinary laboratory.
