Description

The Institute of Interdisciplinary Research (IRIBHM,http://www.ulb.ac.be/medecine/iribhm/) is the largest biomedicalresearch department of University of Brussels Medical School (ULB), withstate of the art facilities in imaging, molecular and cellular biologyand genetics. A strong expertise has been established in the field of Gprotein-coupled receptors, particularly the functional characterizationof novel receptors.

The IRIBHM recruits post-doctoral fellows in the following areas:

• Regulation of inflammatory responses. Delineation of the in vivo roleand clinical relevance of recently characterized G protein-coupledreceptors. The function of the receptors will be analyzed by usingestablished knock out mice in inflammatory disease models, combined withdistribution studies in human pathological samples. One position isdedicated to ChemR23, which is involved in the recruitment of dendriticcells and the regulation of immune responses. Another to PrRP receptorand GIR, which control central functions such as stress, nociception andreward, and peripheral immune responses. Strong experience inimmunology, animal models and/or histopathology is mandatory.

• New targets for Parkinson’s diseases. Determination of the naturalligands and function of a set of orphan G protein-coupled receptorsexpressed in the central nervous system, in collaboration with a networkof academic groups and industries. These receptors constitute potentialtargets for treating Parkinson’s disease. One position will involve theidentification of ligands acting on the receptors, another will analyzethe function of the receptors in mouse knock out models. Experience inpeptide/protein purification, or the generation and behavioral analysisof knock out models, is a prerequisite.

All positions are open for at least two years starting immediately.Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue untilposition is filled.
