Description
POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW : When somatic cells are induced to becomepluripotent stem (iPS) cells, global epigenetic remodeling occurs anddramatic reprogramming of DNA replication is required. Our laboratoryfocuses on the fidelity, mechanism, and requirements for DNA replicationreprogramming using several genomic loci as model systems.
We use high-resolution microarrays and Solexa sequencing on the genomicscale. Chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) in combination withmicroarrays (ChIP-on-chip) is being used to determine the role ofhistone modifications in regulating the DNA replication program. Therole of replication initiation sites in reprogramming loci critical fordevelopment is being studied by analysis of single DNA molecules.
Additional Projects include:
• Reprogramming of DNA replication by modification of chromatin structure.
• Changes in nuclear organization and DNA replication during B celldevelopment and their role in immunoglobulin heavy chain gene rearrangement.

The Department of Cell Biology at the Albert Einstein College ofMedicine has initiated a special awards program for outstandingcandidates. The awards carry a stipend of $50,000/year for three years.Applicants to my laboratory would be eligible to apply; however,long-term NIH funding is available for an applicant who does not receivethis award.
These studies are being carried out in the Einstein Center for HumanEmbryonic Stem Cell Research. The Albert Einstein College of Medicine islocated in a pleasant, quiet residential area in the northeast corner ofNew York City with easy access to Manhattan and the suburbs ofWestchester County and Connecticut. Affordable University housing isavailable close to the campus.
