Description

The candidate will work in the framework of the EU-funded collaborativeresearch project “IBDase” (http://www.rheumabern.ch/5509.html). TheIBDase consortium in FP7 involves nine European research groups fromdifferent disciplines, including genetics, biochemistry, molecularbiology, mucosal immunology, microbiology, and translational medicine,to address the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel diseases in patientsand animal models with a focus on proteases and protease inhibitors. Theinterdisciplinary research effort is coordinated by the University ofBern, Switzerland.

TASKS:

Meta-analysis of published literature and online databases, inparticular genetic association studies, to define protease and proteaseinhibitor candidate genes in inflammatory bowel disease.

Analysis of expression regulation and biochemical properties ofpolymorphic variants of protease / protease inhibitor genes in cellculture and organ culture models and in human intestinal tissuespecimens. Define the role of miRNAs in the expression regulation ofprotease and protease inhibitor genes.

Contribute to the development of novel IBD mouse models, incollaboration with other research groups.

REQUIREMENTS:

* Experience in relevant research fields and/or methodological fields.
* Motivation for collaborative research in an international andinterdisciplinary environment.
* Computer skills and interest in the application of bioinformaticsand statistical procedures, in collaboration with experts.
* Fluency in English and good communication skills.
* Experience in publication of research results in peer-reviewed journals.
* Motivation to contribute to the supervision of PhD students in the project.

CRITERIA FOR ELIGIBILITY:

PhD or MD/PhD in relevant fields.

Start date: Earliest time point 1st of March 2008, duration 36 months.
