Bioinformatics:
The Department of Clinical Sciences at UT Southwestern Medical Center(Dallas, TX) is seeking a postdoctoral scholar to train as a databaseanalyst for the NIH-funded Bioinformatics Integration Support Contractproject. The candidate should have a Ph.D. in the biological sciences,preferably in immunology, with an interest in bioinformatics,computational biology and/or biostatistics, and a strong workingknowledge of experimental design and execution, especially within theimmunology field. A firm understanding of the structure of language,including semantics, syntax, linguistics, and philosophy would also bean advantage.
This individual will be a member of the research team responsible forthe maintenance and extension of the Immunology Database and AnalysisPortal (http://www.immport.org). The candidate will spend ~50% effortparticipating in the development and curation of biomedical ontologiesfor laboratory experimentation and clinical trials, and of datareporting standards. The other 50% effort will be spent on the following:
• Interacting with the immunology community in order to capture systemrequirements in support of database design, user interface design anddata modeling.
• Provide personal support to system users.
• Develop training materials (tutorials, etc.) for users.
• Assist in testing of system components.
• Develop scientific use cases for integrating basic research resultswith bioinformatics tools for analysis.
• Attend and/or present at regular group meetings and scientific conferences/retreats.
