University of Alabama at Birmingham Job Title:  Post-Doctoral Fellow 
Job Description

A position for a post-doctoral fellow is open within the newly founded Stem Cell Institute, in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics, at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Initial projects will involve understanding the molecular mechanisms of heterochromatin formation in vertebrates. The ideal candidate will have an interest and experience in the following areas: RNA molecular biology, chromatin structure/function, and the regulation of eukaryotic gene expression. The candidate should have his/her own research interests and will be expected to develop them along with existing lab projects. The candidate must have experience in cell culture, and most routine molecular biological tasks. The initial position will be funded for 1 year with a strong possibility for an extension beyond. Despite the availability of initial funding, the successful candidate will be expected to apply for independent funding. The Stem Cell Institute is fully equipped to utilize all current molecular, cellular and biochemical experimental techniques.
