job description
At the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry, clinicians and scientists are working in close cooperation on the causes of complex diseases of the brain and searching for new ways of their treatment. For this, besides a modern clinic with all facilities and equipment required for patient care and re-search, there are well equipped laboratories available. Here, neurobiological research methods, from behavioral studies to molecular genetics can be applied. The aim is, to optimize the benefit of research for the patients by way of close and innovative networking of basic research oriented and clinical neuroscience.
The Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry, Munich, Germany is one of the leading research institutes worldwide working on the neurobiology of psychiatric disorders based on a truly translational ap-proach, combining both clinical and basic research.
The research projects of our group focus on questions originating from the treatment and clinical course of patients with major depression and aim at the identification of novel pathways and proc-esses that are involved in antidepressants’ mechanism of action. In addition, we investigate factors that determine individual response to antidepressant treatment using mouse models. In close col-laboration with other research groups in our Institute, we have a multidisciplinary approach to this topic, ranging from cellular and molecular neurobiological approaches (e.g. gene expression profil-ing) to in vivo behavioural pharmacology (mouse) and animal models for stress-related psychiatric disorders. Potential target genes are further characterized in vitro and in vivo (mouse).
Our Institute offers a stimulating interdisciplinary scientific environment, and close connections between the research groups provide unique possibilities for efficient translational research.
Candidates must have a PhD or MD degree and a publication record demonstrating expertise in at least some of the relevant areas (neuroscience, behavioural pharmacology, morphology). Self-motivation, ability to work independently, and desire to be exposed to an interdisciplinary environ-ment are also desirable. A keen interest in neuroscience and in vivo research (mice) and good writing and communication skills are important to be successful in our team. Previous experience in morphological techniques (e.g. immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridisation) are highly welcome.
The position includes a 2-year scholarship according the rules of the Max Planck Society (re-search stipend); prolongation of the contract is possible.
Furnished apartments are available at the campus of the institute.
The Max Planck Society is committed to increasing the quota of female staff in areas where they are underrepresented; women are therefore encouraged to apply for this position.
The Max Planck Society also seeks to employ more physically disabled persons; such persons are also encouraged to apply.
