Postdoc Position in Genetics of Pain, Analgesia and Side Effects

A NIDA-funded Postdoctoral Researcher position is currently available to study the genetics of pain and pain-related traits.

The lab studies the genetics of variability in pain, analgesia and treatment side effects in animals including in behavioral models of inflammatory and neuropathic pain. The NIDA-funded project has recently determined regions of the mouse genome containing candidate genes underlying several pain traits. Determining the responsible candidate genes remains to be performed via gene expression analysis, behavioral pharmacology, knockout mouse testing, basic molecular and other methods appropriate for the candidate gene.

Overall goals include identification of the genetic mechanisms of heritable pain traits to provide high priority candidate genes for study in people and the development of novel therapeutic strategies. Some opportunities to be involved in human pain research projects as well.

Highly motivated candidates should have a background in neuroscience, preferably of pain, with experience with some of the methods mentioned above. Most importantly, candidates should show strong interest and motivation to learn and apply the methods and develop new ideas towards the goals of the overall research program.
