Description:

Postdoctoral position available in an expanding NIH funded laboratory at the University of California San Francisco Comprehensive Cancer Center for an outstanding candidate interested in cancer biology or translational cancer research. Our laboratory is interested in tyrosine kinase signaling in epithelial cancers focusing on the Src and HER kinase families. One area has been to determine the functional role of Src kinases in human solid tumors, which remains unclear despite three decades of study. Towards this goal, we are studying the functions of a novel substrate of Src kinases which we identified and is frequently phosphorylated in epithelial cancers and inhibits integrin signaling and cell adhesion. Another area of study is to determine the molecular mechanisms that allow HER2-HER3 signaling to resist HER2-targeted drug therapies, significantly undermining their anti-tumor activities, and creating the barrier that stands in the way of curative treatments for this disease. The lab encompasses a wide range of in vitro and in vivo experimental techniques including protein biochemistry, gene expression and knockdown models, mouse xenograft and genetic models, and interrogation of clinical samples. UCSF is a highly collaborative environment and our laboratory is involved in collaborations with multiple other research programs within the scientific community including programs in systems biology, small molecule discovery, chemistry and chemical biology, structural biology, as well as collaborations with the biotech and pharmaceutical industries. We are also actively engaged in translating our laboratory-derived findings in clinical trials conducted at the cancer center.
