Description:
A post-doctoral position is available at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Be’er Sheva, Israel, in the research group of Dr. Michael Meijler Department of Chemistry at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. The position is funded by a European Research Council Starting Grant.
The term “quorum sensing” (QS) has been coined to describe the ability of a population of unicellular microorganisms to act as a single multicellular organism in a cell-density-dependent manner. Bacteria achieve this feat by the use of small diffusible molecules to exchange information among themselves. Examples of QS-controlled behaviors are bioluminescence, virulence factor expression and biofilm formation. These processes are advantageous to a bacterial population only when they are carried out simultaneously by its members. We are developing chemical, biochemical and genetic strategies to modulate QS and to target unknown receptors, and we are seeking ambitious post-doctoral candidates with a Ph.D. in any of the following research areas: Chemical Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Proteomics.
The initial appointment will be for one year, with renewal up to three years subject to satisfactory progress and mutual agreement. The position is available immediately, but timing can be flexible, and will provide a highly competitive salary and benefits commensurate with experience.
