Description:
The Institute of Neuropathology, Research Group "Experimental Neuropathology" (Prof. Dr. M. Neumann) invites applications for a postdoctoral position starting immediately.
Recently, TDP-43 and FUS were identified as novel disease proteins in two neurodegenerative diseases: frontotemporal dementia and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Neumann et al. 2006, Science; Neumann et al. 2009, Brain). The major goal in our present and future research is to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying TDP-43 and FUS accumulation and its role in the pathogenesis and cell death in frontotemporal dementia and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
Experimental approaches in our lab include and combine engineering and analyses of diverse transgenic mice, establishment of (high-throughput) cell culture and biochemical assays, and human molecular neuropathology.
Applicants with a strong background in neurobiology/neurodegeneration and experiences in molecular/cell biology, biochemistry and work with transgenic mice are particularly encouraged to apply.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree and peer reviewed publications. Fluency in English is mandatory.

Applications should be addressed to Prof. Dr. Neumann by e-mail (manuela.neumann@usz.ch) or regular mail (Institute of Neuropathology, Schmelzbergstr. 12, 8091 Zurich, Switzerland).
