Description:

This position is in the laboratory of Mark Bieda and immediately available. A fundamental focus of the lab is analyzing the importance of aberrational changes in epigenetic marks (“epimutations”) in producing the phenotype of brain tumor stem cells. A wide variety of approaches are used, ranging from genome scale localization of epigenetic marks (ChIP-chip and ChIP-seq) to immunohistochemistry and cell proliferation assays. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about leading-edge genomics, epigenetics, and bioinformatics. This is also an excellent opportunity to quickly develop publications. For the motivated postdoctoral fellow, there are many opportunities for additional projects.
The successful candidate will be energetic, motivated and intellectually curious. In addition, the successful candidate will have previous publications (or at least a publication in press) and experience with a variety of molecular biology techniques. Previous experience with cancer biology or work in transcriptional regulation is a plus but not required. This position offers opportunities for both formal collaborative and informal interactions with other strong research groups, including a very active Brain Tumor Group at the university. Due to university regulations, applicants should have less than five years of postdoctoral experience. The PI is committed to the career advancement of members of the laboratory and will offer detailed mentoring on these points.

The University of Calgary offers an excellent environment with a rapidly growing pool of biomedical research labs and significant shared facilities. We encourage all qualified persons to apply. The University of Calgary hires on the basis of merit and is committed to employment equity. However, Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given priority.

Calgary is a city of ~1 million people and is located only ~1.5 hours from world-renowned recreational areas (Banff National Park).
