Description:

Funded postdoctoral fellowship positions are available in New York City at the Weill Cornell Medical College Department of Surgery in the laboratory of Marco Seandel, M.D., Ph.D., to investigate the mechanisms of self renewal in adult stem cells and cancer stem cells.

The focus of the lab is to identify and characterize novel signals emanating from the microenvironment (or niche) that impinge upon the fate of both normal and malignant stem cells. The principle models utilized in the laboratory include adult murine and human germline stem cells, human endothelial cells, solid tumor cell lines, primary human tumor tissue, and mouse models. Projects will entail manipulation of gene expression in the aforementioned systems using both classical and novel molecular tools in conjunction with cell culture, biochemical, and in vivo assays (stem cell transplantation and xenograft). Candidate pathways will be addressed in parallel with on-going chemical and genetic screens.

The ideal postdoctoral fellow candidate should be highly motivated, have a PhD or MD degree, a strong background in molecular biology, cell biology, or mouse genetics and publications in internationally recognized journals. Applicants should be fluent in English and be available for an interview. Experience with mammalian cell culture (particularly stem cells), analysis of transgenic/knockout mice, use of lentivirus, and fluorescence microscopy strongly preferred.
