Description:

The Systems and Cell Biology of Neurodegeneration Lab, at the Medical Faculty of University of Zurich is recruiting a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scientist.

Neurodegenerative diseases are complex whose etiologies cannot be pinned to few genes. In the case of late onset Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson’s disease, the identity of the risk genes is still not known. By combining functional genomics with computational tools, we intend to understand the complex molecular network that underlies AD. The lab uses state of the art high-throughput screening methods and cell biological tools to identify genes involved in these diseases and in parallel, also characterize the mechanism by which they regulate this process (Rajendran, et al, Science, 2008; Rajendran, et al, PNAS, 2006, Aguzzi & Rajendran, Neuron, 2009, Rajendran, et al, Nature Rev. Drug Discovery, 2010).

The postodoctoral candidate will perform several high throughput siRNA/ small molecule-based compound screens to study the complexity and the genetic basis of these diseases.

Education / Requirements

Candidates should have their PhDs in Molecular or Cell Biology, Biochemistry or Genetics or an equivalent area and should be able to demonstrate a track record of independent productive research and have strong organizational, written, and verbal skills. Only candidates who have previous experience in RNAi screening and automation need to apply. Candidates should be able to work both independently and as part of a laboratory team. Zurich is a great place to live; it is an international city and has lot to offer in terms of cultural activities and nature.

Contact:

Interested candidates are encouraged to apply with their CV, representative publications and two or three references to Prof. Lawrence Rajendran: rajendran@bli.uzh.ch, latest by 1st April 2010.
