Description:

An opening for a full-time, 11-month appointment, temporary, non-tenure track Junior Researcher position (equivalent to Postdoctoral Fellowship) is available at the Institute for Biogenesis Research at the University of Hawaii, Manoa!

We are looking for a research associate familiar with molecular and cell biology to participate in a 5-year federally funded grant, which will focus on the initiation of DNA replication in the one cell embryo. This project has implications for both mammalian fertilization/embryology and for the ubiquitous controls of DNA replication in all cells using the one cell embryo as a model.

Salary Information: Minimum $45,000.00/year USD. Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Other Conditions: Position to begin approximately May 2010 pending position clearance and availability of funds. Renewal of position is subject to performance and/or availability of funds.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1) Conduct research as part of a working team in a laboratory focusing on studying the function of sperm chromatin structure.
2) Develop and perform specific molecular techniques as needed by the projects; in particular, RNAi injection into oocytes, immunofluorescence of mouse oocytes and one cell embryos, western blots, and PCR. Some techniques can be learned in our laboratory. There is the opportunity to learn microinjection if desired.
3) Candidate will be expected to manage his/her individual projects within the context of the lab research goals, and be expected to contribute to writing manuscripts for publication.

Minimum Qualifications:
1) M.S. from a college or university of recognized standing in molecular bioscience or related field.
2) Demonstrated experience with basic molecular biology techniques. Working knowledge of gamete and embryo biology.
3) Ability to perform research as part of a working team.

Desirable Qualifications:
1) PhD in molecular bioscience or related field preferred.
2) Prior experience and high success rates with mouse In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF), Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), Embryo Culture (EC) and Embryo Transfer (ET).
3) Documented research experience in the field of gamete and embryo biology.
4) Publication record in peer reviewed scientific journals.
