Imaging Metals in Stroke

Description:

The fellow will join the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Team in Synchrotron Medical Imaging, working primarily with Dr. Frederick Colbourne (University of Alberta). This position offers unique training opportunities linking cutting-edge neuroscience with both synchrotron and clinical medical imaging. While based in Alberta, the fellow will travel, all expenses paid, to meet and collaborate with other members of the team and work at synchrotrons in Canada and the USA. This is a two-year appointment with a possibility of extension.

Qualifications:

This fellow will utilize rodent models of global and focal brain ischemia and intracerebral hemorrhage to study changes in the amount, location and chemistry of metals (e.g. Fe, Zn) and sulfur related to stroke pathophysiology, neuroprotection, and rehabilitation. Previous experience with in vivo rodent models of stroke would be an asset.

All applicants must have completed a Ph.D. or MD/Ph.D within the last 5 years, have a strong publication record and excellent communication skills. All training in synchrotron methodologies will be provided but candidates must be able to travel to synchrotron facilities in Canada and the USA.
