Description

The aim of this project is to develop a novel 3D ligand shape-matching system using fast polar Fourier shape descriptors to identify candidate ligands for a given protein target, and to use fast ligand shape matching and protein-ligand docking correlations to perform high throughput ligand-based and receptor-based 3D virtual screening. This project will involve considerable software development in C and and it will include adapting existing algorithms to run on graphics processors using CUDA.

This post is available for up to two years at the standard INRIA postdoctoral rate of 2,347 euro/month.

Candidates must have a PhD in one of the mathematical or physical sciences, and must have strong and demonstrable abilities and experience in programming using C or C++, for example, on Unix/Linux or Windows systems. Experience of scripting languages such as Python and PHP would also be desirable. Experience of parallel programming, high performance computing, and computer graphics would be desirable but is not essential. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong interest or background in structural biology, crystallography, computational chemistry, molecular modelling, or related areas. Candidates should have a proven research track record, demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals in one or more of the above areas. Self-motivation, good team-working, leadership, inter-personal, and presentational skills are highly desirable additional attributes.

The LORIA (Lorraine Laboratory for Informatics Research and its Applications) is the largest computer science research laboratory in the east of France. The LORIA is occupied by several organisations such as CNRS, INRIA, and Nancy University. More than 450 people work at the LORIA, of whom about one third are permanent researchers and academics, one third are postdoctoral researchers and doctoral students, and one third are engineers, technicians, and administrative staff. Researchers at the LORIA benefit from working in a stimulating interdisciplinary environment. The advertised position will involve close interaction with people involved in a variety of areas including e.g. molecular dynamics, geometric modelling of complex surfaces, virtual reality, and data mining. The working languages at the LORIA are French and English. For further information, please see:
