Description

EXCEPTIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR EXCEPTIONAL TRAINEES IN BIOMARKER INNOVATIONS

The PROOF Centre of Excellence for Commercialization and Research (http://www.proofcentre.ca) discovers, develops, implements, and commercializes molecular biological markers (biomarkers) to predict, diagnose and manage heart, lung and kidney failure. The PROOF Centre takes a unique, multi-disciplinary approach, serving as a hub for industry, academia, and government as well as for patients and the public. The PROOF Centre’s focus on biomarkers is driven by a desire to lead in the pursuit of “personalized medicine” — giving each individual the correct preventative or treatment, at the correct time, in the correct amount — which will reduce the enormous burden of heart, kidney, and lung failure around the world.

The PROOF Centre is supported by the Government of Canada through the Networks of Centres of Excellence program. The PROOF Centre’s host institution is the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. The Centre already features a team of biologists, pathologists, clinicians, computer scientists and statisticians, reflective of the multi-disciplinary work being undertaken.

Positions are available for Post-Doctoral Fellowships in Biomarker Discovery and Implementation. A successful candidate must have expertise in human heart, kidney or lung conditions, or related areas of biology or human health. Prior experience analyzing large volumes of genomic, proteomic and/or metabolomic data is a definite asset. Training in Data Mining, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics or Systems Biology is a bonus. Funding for outstanding candidates is available for at least two years.

Positions are available through the Departments of Medical Genetics or Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Degrees can include PhD, MD, DSc, or equivalent.

Applications must include 1) Letter of introduction, 2) Curriculum Vitae, 3) Transcripts from formal post-secondary school education, and 4) Names and full contact information for three professional references.
