Description

The Children’s Mercy Hospital (CMH) and the University of Missouri-Kansas City are pleased to announce the availability of the William R. Brown/Missouri Chair in Medical Genetics, one of the 21 endowed chair positions currently active in the School of Medicine.

For this distinguished post, we are seeking a mid-career scientist (Ph.D., M.D. or M.D., Ph.D. currently appointed at the rank of Associate or full Professor in an accredited, U.S. based university) with a sustained record of scholarly achievement in either Population Genetics or Statistical Genetics. Candidates with a record of extramural funding as a principal investigator will be given priority consideration. Also, the successful candidate should have evidence of excellence in the provision of instruction to medical and graduate students, and to postdoctoral fellows. While this position is predominantly (more than 75%) focused upon biomedical research, the potential for clinical practice in Medical Genetics exists within CMH. Physician applicants who desire appointment to the CMH medical staff must have evidence of board certification in Pediatrics and Medical Genetics, and must fulfill criteria for licensure as a physician in the states of Missouri and Kansas. The successful applicant will be employed by CMH and will have a regular, professorial appointment in the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine.

The individual selected for the awarding of this endowed chair will be responsible for directing genetics research in the Department of Pediatrics which currently has a core group (five) of Ph.D. faculty members working in established laboratory settings and molecular modeling. He/she will also be appointed as a member of the new Center for Personalized Medicine and Therapeutic Innovation at CMH; a program with considerable strength and record of accomplishment in the areas of pharmacogenomics, pediatric clinical pharmacology and developmental lung biology. Also, opportunities for academic appointment in a new Bioinformatics/Personalized Medicine graduate program at the School of Medicine exist as do opportunities for collaboration with scientists at both Kansas University and the Stowers Institute for Biomedical Research.
