Description
TA postdoctoral position is available for innovative studies of connexin channel structure/function using biophysical, biochemical and genetic approaches. Projects available explore the molecular basis and regulation of selective molecular permeation of connexin channels, and the functional contributions of specific connexin sites, domains and isoforms to channel function, using disease-causing mutants and pore blockers as tools.
The position requires a PhD, excellent English communication skills and demonstrated knowledge and skills in the techniques of ion channel/membrane protein structure-function and biochemistry, such as (but not limited to) fluorescence-based assays, molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, photoaffinity labeling, and channel reconstitution and recording. Research experience with membrane proteins or membrane biology is strongly desired.
The successful applicant will be intellectually creative, self-motivated and self-directed, enjoy independent work within a collaborative group, and have as a career goal an independent research position. There should be a productive track record of rigorous work published in peer-reviewed journals, and very enthusiastic letters of recommendation.
The Department, University and immediate environs provide a rich, vigorous environment for research. The campus is less than 20 minutes from midtown Manhattan by train or car.
