Dr. Joe G. N. Garcia of the Department of Medicine at the University ofChicago is looking for a postdoctoral fellow to join amulti-disciplinary team conducting world-leading research into themolecular and genetic causes of acute lung injury and other complexpulmonary conditions. The successful candidate will apply genotyping andstatistical/bioinformatics methods to a wide variety of studiesexamining genetic polymorphism data, including candidate gene andgenome-wide association studies.
The candidate must have a Ph.D. degree, at least two years ofpost-doctoral training in Genetic Epidemiology and related fields (e.g.Population Genetics), and demonstrated experience in bench work relatedto DNA sequencing/SNP genotyping.
The candidate must have practical experience in the analysis of humanpolymorphism data, including disease mapping studies byassociation/linkage, haplotype analysis, population genetics, andadmixture analysis. The candidate must have proficiency with statisticalsoftware packages (R, SPSS, SAS, and/or Matlab).
Self-motivation, strong initiative, excellent organizational skills, andability to handle several projects simultaneously, demonstrated abilityfor independent critical thinking, and ability to work in acollaborative environment are required. Strong oral and writtencommunication skills are essential.
