Description
Applications are invited for a post within the group of Dr Guillermo de la Cueva-Méndez to investigate ways of exploiting prokaryotic toxin Kid and its neutralizing antitoxin Kis in cancer therapy. Kid triggers apoptosis in human cells and, at the right ratios, Kis protects from this effect. Our aim is to design, test and validate strategies to achieve differential modulation of the Kid-to-Kis ratio in cancer cells (to kill them) and normal cells (to protect them). The post-holder will be requested to undertake research aiming to exploit differences between both types of cells (e.g. relative gene copy number, transcription, mRNA stability, translation and/or protein stability) to achieve selective killing of cancer cells using Kid and Kis. Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential and the post-holder should be able to offer multi-disciplinary collaborations.
This Career Development Fellowship is designed to provide post-doctoral training in an excellent research environment for a period of up to 3 years. The starting salary will be between £25,368 – £26,953 pa depending on level of postdoctoral experience.
