An electrophysiologist/molecular biologist is required to participate in a small research group, studying the molecular mechanisms of purinergic signalling. The group pursues a multidisciplinary approach to P2X receptors. This includes single channel structure-function work on P2X receptors in heterologous expression, biochemical studies of the proteins, and electrophysiological approaches to their function in mammalian cells. A focus of the present post will be heterologous expression and site-directed mutagenesis to gain further insight to the stoichiometry and subunit arrangement of P2X receptors (see Physiol. Rev. 82,1013, 2002; Nature 442, 528, 2006).
You should have a PhD in a relevant field with some experience in whole-cell patch-clamping and strong molecular biology background.
Funded by The Wellcome Trust, this position is available from 1 October 2008 until 31 December 2009.
