Description

The School of Public Health at the University of Alberta, in conjunction with the Provincial Laboratory for Public Health (ProvLab), is seeking an innovative postdoctoral scientist to join our research program on molecular diagnostics for malaria. The candidate will be participating in a multidisciplinary project to develop a point-of-care test for malaria. The goal is to design and implement a real-time PCR assay on a microfluidic platform as a new diagnostic tool for malaria. This low-cost, portable technology has the potential to make a significant impact on malaria diagnostics in endemic countries.

This project is supported by a team grant from the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research. Our team includes members from the Provincial Laboratory for Public Health, the Cross Cancer Institute, and the Faculty of Engineering and National Institute for Nanotechnology at the University of Alberta, and other academic colleagues across Alberta. This project offers unique and exciting opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration. The candidate will work closely with colleagues within the team and take an active role in training and mentoring students engaged in the project.

Candidates with interests in the biomedical sciences, parasitology, public health, molecular biology or diagnostics are strongly encouraged to apply. Experience with real-time PCR would be an asset. Candidates are expected to have completed a PhD in a related discipline and have a strong academic record competitive for national and international postdoctoral awards. Salary support for this position begins at $40,000 per year for a two-year period. The position is available immediately.

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply. We thank all applicants for their time and effort but only those selected for an interview will be contacted. Applicants may be considered for future vacancies.
