DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
The Microfluidics Department conducts significant research programs directed at advancing microfluidic and microseparation techniques for various applications, including chemical and biochemical sensing. Our department’s areas of research include designing, developing, and fabricating Microscale Total Analytical Systems (microTAS); characterizing capillary- and chip-based chemical and/or protein separation techniques (e.g., electrophoresis, electrochromatography, and microHPLC); exploring chemical detection by optical, electrochemical, and mass-spectrometric methods; and studying microfluidic processes. We also explore other novel applications of high-pressure, high-flow-rate electrokinetic pumping systems.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Sandia’s Microfluidics Department is accepting applications for a two-year postdoctoral position. Working on a collaborative project with the University of Texas’s Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, the postdoctoral researcher will support the ongoing development of microscale, automated sample-preparation and -analysis devices for pathogen detection and the enhanced proteomic coverage of plasma samples. While at Sandia, the postdoc will have the opportunity to work and communicate with a highly interdisciplinary team of scientists.

QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates for this postdoctoral position must have a Ph.D. in chemistry or a life science, as well as demonstrated technical excellence through published work. Candidates must also have hands-on lab experience with sample preparation techniques, liquid chromatography, and mass spectrometry. In addition, excellent oral- and written-communication skills are required for this position. Desired qualifications include experience with analyzing posttranslational modifications and/or statistical data.
