This position is eligible for a $500 Employee Referral Bonus consistent with the University policy.

A Post Doctoral position is available to study the anatomical and functional integration of both exogenous glial and endogenous neural precursor cells within animal models of brain and spinal cord injury. Additional work will examine whether pharmacological or molecular (gene therapy) methodologies can be used conjunctively with neural precursor cells to enhance their cell-specific differentiation and to increase their efficacy for repair. The Post Doctoral Associate will be part of a multi-institutional research group (http://www.miamiproject.miami.edu) which involves frequent interactions with a broad range of scientists with expertise in human genetics, bioinformatics, molecular biology, immunology, molecular pharmacology, rehabilitative medicine and clinical pathology. The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis provides a vibrant research environment with outstanding core facilities and infrastructure.

Job Requirements: Minimum qualifications include a recent Ph.D. or Post Doctoral experience in Neuroscience, Molecular and Cellular Biology and/or Neurosurgery. Experience in cell culture, particularly in the area of neuronal or glia biology and molecular techniques is required including RNA and DNA extractions, PCR, RT-PCR, functional promoter assays and cloning. Previous work in cell transplantation, brain/spinal cord injury modeling, viral vector design, immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization is desired. Excellent communication and organizational skills preferred. Candidates must have published at least 1 first author paper in an English language journal. An appropriate combination of education, certifications, and/or relevant work experience will be considered.
