Description
A postdoctoral position is available in the research group of Dr. Gerhard Schratt at the Interdisciplinary Center for Neurosciences (IZN) of the University of Heidelberg, Germany.
Our research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of local mRNA translation in dendrites and its role in synapse development/plasticity, with special emphasis on microRNA-mediated control (Schratt et al., Nature. 2006;439(7074):283-9; Fiore and Schratt, Scientific World Journal 2007;7:167-177). See http://www.izn.uni-heidelberg.de/e/profiles/schratt.html for further details.
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to establish a new project on the role of microRNAs in neuroplasticity related to mood disorders and addiction. The focus will be on the elucidation of microRNA-regulated mechanisms in the rodent striatum that control gene expression at the transcriptional and post-transcriptional level, neuronal morphology and ultimately addictive behavior.
Molecular and cell biology background with expertise in common molecular and cell biological techniques is essential. Experience in working with primary neurons and slice cultures, in particular of striatal origin, is desirable. Salary is according to the German TV?D scale.
