Ochanomizu University, a National University Corporation in Japan, issearching for a
post-doctoral fellow working with the assistant professor Dr. AtsushiOgura on the Program for
Researchers to Promote Creative and Independent Research supported bythe Ministry of Education,
Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
1. Title: “Program-Specific” Research fellow
2. Number of available positions: 1
3. Term of Employment: The first term is from the appointment day to March 31, 2009.
The employment contract is academic-year duration and could be extended until March 31, 2012.
4. Annual Salary: 4,560,000 yen (before tax and benefits, commuter expenses are included, no
dismissal allowance)
5. Working style: Full time
6. Research area
A-1. Bioinformatics (Assistant Professor Atsushi Ogura, from March 2008)
Key words: Biodiversity and evolution, Evolution of brain/nervous system, Microarray
Research topics: Biodiversity or evolution of brain/nervous system, by use of experimental facilities
such as microarray scanner, DNA sequencer, real-time PCR, and computational facilities etc.
A concrete plan would be decided after the discussion with the assistant professor.
7. Eligible applicants:
Applicants should have (or expect to hold by March 31, 2009) a Ph.D.
8. Documents for application:
a. Curriculum vitae.
b. Two recommendation letters or name and address of two persons for references.
c. Outline of previous research and a short sketch of your goals and ambitions (up to 3 pages)
d. Publication list.
e. Photocopies of your best papers (up to 3).
f. List of research grants previously acquired and currently applied.
g. Other references (awards, patents, teaching experience, etc.).
9. Selection schedule:
The first selection will be done in September, and successful applicants in the first selection will
be informed about the interview.
