Description
Molecular mechanisms of prostate cancer and androgen receptor function
A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. NimaSharifi at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
The central focus of this laboratory program is on molecular mechanismsof gain-of-function of the androgen receptor in advanced prostatecancer. Specific goals of this program are:
1) Elucidation of mechanisms of androgen receptor gain-of-function inprostate cancer that is resistant to hormonal therapy
2) Interrogation of androgen receptor transcriptional control
3) Devising novel methods of inhibiting androgen receptor transcriptionwith synthetic chemist collaborators
We have recently identified a genetic perturbation that leads to ARgain-of-function in androgen independent prostate cancer and the currentfocus of this laboratory is elucidation of the specific mechanisms ofhow this occurs and how this can be used to devise novel therapiestargeted at AR. The philosophy of this laboratory program is that amultidisciplinary approach using molecular biology, pharmacology andchemistry is required to make gains in clinical oncology. Accordingly, the laboratory is in search of a postdoctoral fellow who can be focusedon the issues in question, yet is able to communicate effectively withcolleagues and collaborators. Candidates must have an M.D. and/or aPh.D. degree.
