Nevada Cancer Institute (NVCI) is the official cancer institute for theState of Nevada. A nonprofit organization, NVCI is committed to reducingthe burden of cancer by pursuing the development of a comprehensivecancer research institute, as defined by the National Cancer Institute.Through the knowledge and expertise of the finest scientists,clinicians, educators and caregivers, the Institute provides hope tocommunities in Nevada, the southwest and beyond through research,education, early detection, prevention and high quality patient care.NVCI is striving for a future without cancer that is achieved throughinitiated and collaborative research in basic, clinical and population science.
Under the general supervision of Yupo Ma, M.D., M.S., Ph.D - Chief ofHematopathology, two federal funded postdoctoral positions are availableimmediately for highly motivated individuals. The Post Doctoral Fellowworks with a large degree of independence to further the aims of theInvestigator’s research project, developing, designing, executing andpublishing/presenting results and is actively involved in thepreparation and submission of manuscripts and abstracts. Performs allduties in accordance with NVCI’s mission, vision and values ofDiscovery, Excellence, Collaboration, Compassion, Integrity, and Stewardship.
Nevada Cancer Institute is studying how pluripotency of human embryonicand adult stem cells are maintained, and how deregulation may result incancer stem cells, specifically, leukemic stem cells. A Ph.D. degreewith a strong background in molecular biology, biochemistry, and tissueculture is highly desirable. Prior experience in hematopoietic stemcells or human embryonic stem cells is required.
