Description
A fundamental problem in human brain imaging is the lack of techniquesthat simultaneously have high space and time resolution. Bothelectroencephalography (EEG) and Magnetoencephalography (MEG) have hightemporal resolution, but suffer from lack of spatial resolution. Thisproject aims to improve the spatial resolution and robustness of EEG/MEGby performing joint source localization on simultaneous measurements ofvoltages and magnetic fields generated by neural activity. The researchwill involve implementing and extending a new distributed sourcealgorithm (Local Basis Expansions) for solving the joint EEG/MEG inverseproblem, and applying the results to real data sets. Sucessfulcompletion of the research project will have both scientific andbiomedical impact.
The position is in professor Partha Mitra’s group at the Cold SpringHarbor Laboratory. Candidates should ideally have a PhD in Physics,Engineering, Applied Mathematics or Computer Science. Experience withthe EEG or MEG inverse problem as well as signal processing isdesirable, as well as a working knowledge of MATLAB. Familiarity withneural signals is also desirable but can be acquired as a result ofworking on the project.
The position will be based at CSHL in Cold Spring Harbor, NY andincludes an attractive benefits package.
