Molecular probes for hopanoid function
Salary: In range of £29,249 � £31,020
Applications are invited for a post-doctoral researcher to work under the supervision of Dr Stuart Conway in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Oxford (OX1 3TA) in collaboration with Professor Dianne Newman in the Division of Biology at the California Institute of Technology. The position is funded by the EPSRC , and will involve the synthesis of small molecule tools to investigate cellular hopanoid function (PNAS , 2010, 107, 8537; PNAS , 2011, 108, E1045; Geobiology 2012, 10 163;). The project is highly interdisciplinary in nature and will involve working closely with Professor Newman’s laboratory.
The post is available immediately for a period of 36 months. The successful candidate will have a PhD in synthetic organic chemistry / chemical biology involving synthetic chemistry, ideally with some experience of synthesising probes for biological systems, an enthusiasm for working at the chemistry-biology interface and a strong track-record of first-author publications in internationally recognised peer-reviewed journals.
