Description

Several positions (Molecular/cellular Neurobiology & ProteinBiochemistry/structural biology) are available immediately in theLaboratory of Molecular Neurobiology and Neuroproteomics at the SwissFederal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland.Research efforts in the Lashuel’s laboratory cover the following topics:(1) Elucidating the structural basis of amyloid-associated toxicity inneurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, andHuntington’s disease; (2) Understanding the role of quaternary structurein protein function and disease with emphasis on proteins involved inneurodegenerative and inflammatory diseases; (3) developing novelchemical and physical approaches and tools to monitor and controlprotein misfolding and protein aggregation in vitro and in vivo; (4)developing cellular models of neurodegeneration in Parkinson’s disease;(5) developing novel therapeutic strategies based on modulating proteinaggregation and clearance. (6) Exploiting amyloid fibril formation forconstructing polypeptide materials with potential applications inbiotechnology and medicine.

We are looking for highly motivated individuals to work as members of aninterdisciplinary group working at the interface of chemistry andbiology. The candidate must have a strong skills and record ofaccomplishment in these areas. Good writing and communication skills areimportant, and the ability to be a team player and interact with severalgroups is a must. The candidate will benefit from working with a verydynamic and multidisciplinary group working at the interface ofchemistry and biology. In addition, the EPFL offers attractive salariesand learning and working environments

Protein Biochemist/Biophysist or Structural Biologist (1) :

The applicants must have a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Biophysics, structuralbiology or related fields with a strong background and demonstratedcapabilities in protein biochemistry (protein expression, purificationand characterization), with emphasis in quantitative kinetic andbiophysical characterization of proteins and protein-proteininteraction. Applicants with strong skills in molecular modelling, protein design, and/or molecular electron microscopy are also encouragedto apply. Good writing and communication skills are important, and theability to be a team player and interact with several groups is a must.
