Applications are invited for a new fixed-term, full time ResearchAssociate post for up to 36 months within the Viral Cell Biology Grouplocated within the Biomedical Research Building at UEA(http://www.uea.ac.uk/bio/bmrc/). The post is available from 1 March 2008.
The group is studying innate cellular responses to animal viruses. Thepost is funded by the BBSRC Combating Endemic Diseases of Farmed AnimalsInitiative and will investigate the role played by autophagy incontrolling the replication of infectious bronchitis virus (IBV).Autophagy is pathway of protein degradation that can be initiated byinfection. The project will identify proteins encoded by IBV that cancontrol autophagy and see if these are determinants of virulence. IBV isan avian coronavirus which causes a devastating respiratory disease inchickens and will be studied in collaboration with Dr Paul Britton atthe BBSRC’s Institute for Animal Health Laboratories at Compton. Thework will also be relevant to respiratory diseases of humans such asSARS, which are caused by related coronaviruses.
The successful candidate must possess a PhD degree in BiologicalSciences and should ideally have relevant research experience such ascell and molecular biology, bioimaging and protein chemistry. Goodverbal and written skills are essential as well as ability to workindividually and as part of a team.
Closing date: 18 December 2007.
Interview date: Week commencing 7 January 2008.
