Description

Postdoctoral Position to study the HIV virological synapse.

A postdoctoral position is available immediately to investigate the molecular mechanisms of cell-cell transfer of HIV. We are employing new virus tagging methods and live confocal imaging to understand how HIV spreads from T cell to T cell. Our recent studies reveal that virological synapses promote novel pathways of viral internalization that greatly promote the spread of HIV (Chen et al J. Virol 81(22) 2007). The research focuses on an emerging interface between virology and cell biology and tests new paradigms for understanding HIV dissemination.

The appointment will be at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, in the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases and in the Immunology Institute. Experience in virology, confocal imaging, image analysis, molecular biology, mammalian cell biology, and protein chemistry is preferred. Requirements for this post include a strong record of publication and a PhD and/or MD.
