Description

The successful candidate will join a research group, led by Dr Jonathan Brotchie, focused on developing new treatments for Parkinson’s disease. The laboratory is a basic neuroscience laboratory in a hospital-based research institute and enjoys close links with industry and clinical scientists.

The successful applicant will manage, with appropriate technical support, and conduct a range of studies to evaluate novel symptomatic and disease modifying therapeutics in animal models of Parkinson’s disease. Techniques to be employed could include behavioural pharmacology, in situ hybridisation, Western blotting, HPLC, stereotaxic surgery, immunochemistry, radioligand binding and behavioural pharmacology. Experience in one or more of these would be a distinct advantage.

The position is for a PhD-qualified scientist, and is available immediately.

Salary would be CAD $55,000 to $80,000 per annum, based on qualifications and experience, plus a comprehensive benefits package and pension.

Minimum Education: PhD in related field

Minimum Experience: 3 years related experience

Interacts primarily with immediate supervisor and other staff member within the department.
Demonstrates excellent competency in written and verbal communications.
Develops material for publication using strong written, verbal and graphical communications skills.
Expresses complex technical concepts effectively.
Works well with people from different disciplines and with varying levels of technical expertise.
