Description

At the Universität Karlsruhe (TH)

Postdoc and PhD Positions

are available in a junior research group within the framework of the
DFG-Research Center for Functional Nanostructures (CFN)

The group is interested in the regulation of cell adhesion and migration using micro- and nanopatterned substrates. The research work will include atomic force microscopy (AFM), both as a high resolution imaging tool to characterize nanotopographic substrates and as a sensitive single-cell adhesion force measurement device. In addition, intracellular signalling events underlying the adhesive response of cells to nanostructured substrates will be studied using receptor knock-out/knock-down and overexpression strategies and other cell biological techniques. A further objective will be the integration of AFM with different light microscopy techniques, such as fluorescence and laser scanning microscopy. Applicants may have a background in biochemistry, biology or biophysics and should be interested in the interdisciplinary approach of nanobiology. The laboratory is located at the University Karlsruhe and offers state of the art facilities and equipment in the fields of cell biology, atomic force and optical microscopy, and surface preparation. Parts of the research work will be conducted in collaboration with the group of M. Bastmeyer (University Karlsruhe, Faculty for Chemistry and Biosciences, http://www.zi1.uni-karlsruhe.de/).

Universität Karlsruhe (TH) aims to increase the representation of women among the staff and therefore explicitly encourages applications from female scientists. Universität Karlsruhe (TH) is an equal opportunity employer and will give preference to disabled candidates having the same qualifications as their competitors.

Applications should be sent to Dr. Clemens Franz (clemens.franz@bio.uka.de). Further information can be obtained at the address below.
