Molecular and cellular mechanisms in Acute Myeloid leukaemia in Down Syndrome
A Leukaemia Lymphoma Research funded postdoctoral position is available until 31/07/2013 in the laboratory of Professor Paresh Vyas ( http://www.mhu.mrc.ac.uk/people/p.vyas.html ), based within the MRC Molecular Haematology Unit (MHU ). The post may be extended if further funding is available. The Vyas group currently consists of six postdoctoral scientists, two PhD students, two research assistants and one postgraduate bioinformatician. The laboratory works closely with other groups in the MHU . This position will especially suit candidates who are interested in haemopoiesis, leukaemogenesis and understanding how key transcriptional and signaling regulators modulate cell fate.
The project involves dissecting the molecular and cellular mechanisms important in Acute Myeloid Leukaemia in children with Down Syndrome. It will combine work on primary cells with state of the art molecular and cellular techniques including FACS sorting for rare cell populations, next generation sequencing and functional assays. In particular, it will focus on the role of newly identified genetic events involved in leukaemogenesis.
You will hold a PhD in a relevant area and have previous experience in haemopoiesis and molecular biology, tissue culture, in vivo models and flow cytometry. You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, organizational skills to plan experimental bench-work and the ability to work as part of a team as well as independently when required.
