The Burg Laboratory at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry has a position available for one postdoctoral or PhD student to develop chip-based micro and nanofluidic systems for applications in physical biochemistry and microscopy.

Project

The project aims to exploit the unique properties of suspended nanofluidic channels to greatly improve sensitivity, sample consumption, and/or time resolution in studies of biomolecular structure and dynamics. This project would involve the design, fabrication and characterization of novel micro and nanofluidic devices, as well as the construction of supporting electronic and optical instrumentation for proof of concept experiments.

Qualifications

We are looking for a self-motivated individual with a strong background in applied physics, microfluidics, experimental biophysics, engineering, or microscopy. Candidates with a background in the life sciences who also have experience in one of these technical disciplines are welcome to apply. All candidates should be enthusiastic about designing new instrumentation and ideally will have had previous experience in silicon microfabrication.

Environment

The group you will be joining is an international and interdisciplinary team working at the forefront of device development for biophysical and biochemical measurements. Microfabrication will be conducted in the cleanroom environments at MPI in Göttingen and the Research Center Caesar in Bonn.

Notes

The Max Planck Society is trying to increase the percentage of women on its scientific staff and strongly encourages applications from qualified women. The Society is also committed to employing more handicapped individuals and especially encourages them to apply.

Application procedure

Please send your application including a CV, list of publications and the names and contact information of one to three references via e-mail with reference to the code number to

tburg@mpibpc.mpg.de

We ask candidates for their understanding that only those being considered for interviews can be notified.
